Fun in the snow: warm, stylish Muddy Puddles children’s skiwear

Bright, colourful and warm: we love Muddy Puddles, the children’s outdoor wear specialists. Austin and Gwen tried out their jackets and salopettes on our last ski trip, to Austria, so when they offered to send us this season’s new jackets and hats to try out on our trip to Passo Tonale in Italy, we happily said yes.

Muddy Puddles clothes are designed with comfort and style in mind. They’re gender-neutral, which makes it easier to pass them down to younger siblings. My son almost ended up choosing the same red interstellar blizzard winter jacket as his sister. In the end, he chose the navy hoof version. When paired with Muddy Puddles’ knitted beanies, the children looked great. Really distinctive –  there’s no way you’d miss them on the piste.

The design of these jackets was inspired by the Michael Morpurgo book, Where My Wellies Take Me. I like the idea of making clothing that children can wear to go off on an adventure, like the little girl in Morpurgo’s story. Gwen’s jacket was particularly eye-catching, with its starry constellations, spaceships and little orbiting planets.

Both jackets had handy features, and lots of pockets. An iPod holder let older children keep their music to hand on the piste. Pull-out ski pass pockets, with transparent fronts, meant that little ones didn’t have to fumble around with – and potentially lose – their ski passes.

The ski pass holder was attached to tough elastic, so children could pull it out without dropping or losing the pass.

Warm, cosy fleece lined the inside of the jackets. The outside was designed to withstand weather extremes – waterproof to 5,000mm, breathable and windproof. Zip-off gaiters stopped the snow from getting inside when our two excitedly leapt into the snow, when we arrived at Passo Tonale.

And adjustable cuffs, with lycra thumb holes, meant the sleeves didn’t let any snow in. Perfect for snowball fights…..

I was confident that Muddy Puddles’ jackets would keep our two snug and cosy against the snow. We certainly had no complaints at all about the cold – just lots of fun.

Muddy Puddles sent us blizzard jackets and knitted beanies for the purpose of this post. All views are my own.
