Goodbye to 2017 from the Pigeon Pair and Me

windmills at Kinderdijk

A very merry Christmas to all of you! This will be our final post of 2017, as we’re taking a break from the blog. It won’t be a break in our adventures, though. We’re very excited to be heading to Passo Tonale in Italy with Crystal Ski. If you love seeing pictures and videos of beautiful snowy mountains, make sure you’re following us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. There will be a lot. I’ll also be reporting on what the resort’s like as a family ski destination. A new Crystal Whizz Kids’ ski club has just opened in Passo’s Grand Hotel Paradiso, where we’re staying, so the Pigeons will be trying that out.

In amongst all the camera-charging, salopette-hunting and present-wrapping, I’ve taken a moment to look back over our year. It began with me travelling off solo to Bergen and the Norwegian fjords, with Visit Norway. This region has haunted my dreams ever since, with its inky-black fjords and towering mountains. You can read about the trip here and here. In fact, my love affair with the country continued through the year, with a return visit – to Oslo, this time – in August.

We’re lucky to have squeezed in two ski trips to 2017, thanks to a break at the Hotel Puradies in Saalfelden Leogang, near Salzburg, Austria. We were put through our paces on the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, one of the largest ski zones in the country. It was a beautiful area, with just as much to offer families in the summer as in winter. As our first family ski trip, we couldn’t have asked for more.

UK Staycations

The Austria trip was swiftly followed by a break in Norfolk with old friends, and then a series of staycations in the UK: camping in Sussex then off to Carmarthenshire, Wales, and Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

Blog cloning

My blogging year reached a low when I discovered that my blog had been cloned, along with those of my friends Cathy and Gretta. It took a few weeks to get the problem sorted and the blogging back on track. If you want to read more about cloning, or find out what to do if it happens to you, read my post here.

Exploring London

London Duck Tour

As ever, we’ve been making the most of living in one of the top destinations in Europe: London. With trips down the Thames on a Duck Tour and with City Cruises, as well as afternoon tea at the Waldorf Hilton and a trip to the V&A and Science Museums, it’s been a busy time on home turf, as well as further afield.

Shakespeare’s England

Shakespeare Aloud

The end of the year saw us heading north-west; just as far as Warwickshire, where we explored Shakespeare’s England from the base of QHotels’ Chesford Grange. Even though we fitted in visits to Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Mary Arden’s Farm, Warwick Castle and a delicious lunch at The Bell in Alderminster, it felt as though we’d only sampled a smidgeon of what the area has to offer. We’re planning on going back soon.

And so, we’ll see you in 2018. Don’t forget to follow on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook in the meantime. And please let me know about your own travels in the comments below. I’m seeking inspiration for the next twelve months!

This looks absolutely magical. I would love to take my little ones, do you think it would be too cold for a two year old? #getgone
