House of Fraser Christmas collection

House of Fraser

On a scorching day (which turned out to be one of the hottest of the summer), I found myself stepping into a surreal parallel universe of snow, reindeer and Christmas trees.

House of Fraser

Despite the heat, the Christmas preview, which we had been invited to by House of Fraser, showcased a cool palette of stark, minimalist colours (plenty of red, grey, black and white this season), offset by flamboyant detailing.

A rustic wicker reindeer greeted us on the way in, and the showrooms were filled with polar bear figurines, heavily glittered baubles and silvery pine cones.

After a glimpse of some seasonal partywear, we were presented with a few gift ideas. I particularly liked this ‘evening out on the town’ set: a Michael Kors handbag, natty grey studded hat (warm AND stylish), sparkling purse and perfume.

Another favourite was the set of elegant Howick handkerchiefs, and dapper rabbit cufflinks (I’m not sure my other half would go for these….but then, I have some gentlemen friends who would love them ;-).

House of Fraser

The Christmas season homeware was my favourite part of this preview. I’m a big fan of soft, textured cushions to give a sofa some character. These three would be perfect for reclining on, while supping a sherry and listening to some cheesy Christmas tunes.

And the Linea range of Scandinavian Christmas tableware brought a cool Nordic feel to the display.

Don’t these Christmas crackers, with their kissing birds and pretty flower design, look almost too cute to pull apart?

Then, fortified by a refreshing cucumber and mint smoothie, it was back out to the dramatically hot streets of central London. Back then, Christmas felt like a distant mirage; now, it’s creeping closer. Time to start bringing out the snuggly cushions….

Disclosure: we were invited to the Christmas preview event by House of Fraser, and received a small goody bag of samples and vouchers. All views expressed are my own.

I love Christmas and spend a lot of time planning my decorations. The first Reindeer was a bit too Blair witch project for me though 😉

These pictures look lovely and I adore the reindeer, but I’m afraid it’s just too early in the year for me to consider Christmas…I tend to bury my head in the sand until at least the second week of December!!

Wow… must have felt v. strange indeed to do this on one of the hottest days of the year! Loving the minimalist palette of colours for that rustic, but seasonal look.
