A sneak peek inside a Siblu three-bedroom Elegance mobile home

Domaine de Kerlann

This Summer, we were invited by French holiday park specialist Siblu to stay in a three-bedroom Elegance mobile home on one of their sites: Domaine de Kerlann, in Brittany.

Mobile homes, or static caravans, are popular on French campsites. In fact, most of the larger sites have many more of these than the traditional tent pitches, where you rock up with your own tent or camper. The mobile homes are often quite similar, with varying amounts of space; some have verandas or private terraces. The Elegance’s highlights were its barbecue béton, which could be found outside all the mobile homes on this Siblu site; and the large amount of cupboard space. We even had a walk-in wardrobe in our master double bedroom.

Elegance mobile homes are between 31 and 36 m² in size, and are available with either two or three bedrooms. The living space was fairly roomy, with comfortable sofas and a shelving unit to put books, games, DVDs etc. There was a CD player, and a small games/coffee table on coasters.

The kitchen was relatively well-equipped; no dishwasher, but unlike some French mobile homes it had both a hob and oven. There was a decent variety of pots and pans, cutlery and utensils. The fridge/freezer was large enough to hold our food for the week, and there was plenty of cupboard space.

We arrived to a welcome pack of sweet, refreshing local apple juice, traditional Breton biscuits (a bit like shortbread) and the rather more prosaic toilet roll, cleaning cloth, and teas and coffee. For an extra charge you could hire bed linen and towels. Our towels were deep, fluffy and in bright, crisp colours; there were lots of them too, more than we needed for a week. The bedding was a little tired, but perfectly clean.

The bedrooms were on the small side – guests would have been rather squished if they’d crammed in the maximum number of eight, with two in each bedroom and two on the sofa bed – but as a family of four we had tons of room.

There was a small table inside the mobile home, but we ate most of our meals outside, on the terrace. The terrace table would definitely have been large enough for eight guests, and the outside of our Elegance felt private, with a decent amount of space and hedges.

Perfect for some uninhibited holiday high jinks, then….

The children enjoyed the evening when we toasted marshmallows and grilled sardines on the barbecue béton. We didn’t have any firelighters; they were available in the on-site shop, but instead Gwen and her Dad hunted for kindling in the leafier areas of the campsite.

It worked a trick.

If you’d like a video tour of our three-bedroom Elegance, here’s a short clip I took on the first morning of our stay.

That’s the biggest French static caravan I have ever seen, by a country mile! I’m impressed with the walk-in wardrobe. Also it’s nice to be on a site where the pitches have hedges for privacy.

Looks like there is plenty of space for a family of four to enjoy a holiday – I love easygoing vacations like this – looks like you had great weather too!

It was roasting! We were really fortunate with the weather the whole time we were away.

I love these places. We did stay in a posh tent earlier this year in the Black Forest, but give me a mobile home any day over canvas! We stay in a similar place in Innsbruck and it just all seems much more relaxed than scrabbling around for something in a pitch black tent in the middle of the night! 😀 Looks like you had a great time! 🙂

Yes, it’s not much different to a self-catering apartment really. I’d be interested to try out the German/Swiss/Austrian versions to see how they compare.

That living area looks a good size and layout. Always prefer a mobile home to a tent, since we stayed in one 3 years ago and watched the tent opposite get flooded out… :/

This is the only way I would ever consider camping, in a roomy mobile home, with all the facilities and comforts, lol.

Looks so lovely – and when the weathers good it makes eating and family time outside so special!
I would love it there and i like the fact you all started your own fire for the bbq!

We’ve stayed in accommodation near identical to this in France too – it’s like a home from home with all of the essentials included x

I looked at Siblu sites this summer before deciding on our trip to France, I love camping but wasn’t sure I could face taking all our gear and then what if the weather wasn’t so good etc…. so I looked at these. Compact but when the weather is great that doesn’t matter, and if the weather is bad – this would be so cosy. Impressed.

Yes, it ticks a lot of boxes. It still felt outdoorsy, even though we had tons of space and comfort.

We went on two Siblu holidays when the kids were smaller and we really enjoyed them both. We were surprised by the size of the caravans and loved all the activities, especially the pool. The first holiday in particular, in the Vendee region, was a real treat (though it rained most the second one!) I also liked how it seemed more private than I would have expected – as you say.

Ah, interesting that you’ve stayed with Siblu too. These sorts of breaks are a bit of a French classic, aren’t they? We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Brittany.

Yes, this one was a decent size. I’d find it difficult to stay in a tiny mobile home for a whole week, I have to admit.

It was all amazing, but the Glenan Archipelago was probably my highlight of the entire trip.
