What makes YOUR perfect family holiday? Lots of time outdoors? A pool? Good food, with a side order of fine wine?
Luxury camping providers Yelloh! Village want to find out what makes British holidaymakers tick. They’ve created a Luxury Camping Barometer – a survey to find out what people in the UK want from a luxury campsite. If you complete the survey, you’re in with the chance to win a weekend away at a Yelloh! Village campsite for the whole family.
Our perfect family holiday with Yelloh! Village
One of our first ever holidays together as a family was at Yelloh! Village Parc du Val de Loire, in the Loire Valley, France. My mother, her partner and my aunt joined us and for our little gang, it was the perfect family holiday. We slept in one of Yelloh!’s four-person cabins, and ate our meals on the cabin terrace. The buttery croissants, barbecued fresh fish and creamy local potatoes tasted even nicer outdoors. The pool’s colourful waterslides were a big hit with our two young children. We found it hard to drag ourselves away from the pool.
Parc du Val de Loire even had its own wine, on sale in the campsite shop.
Enjoying nature in Yelloh! Village luxury campsites
France is a country with large pockets of quiet countryside. Yelloh! Village pride themselves on giving holidaymakers access to this natural beauty – in Spain and Portugal, as well as France. When we stayed at Parc du Val de Loire, it was the end of August, and the graceful oak trees around our cabin were shedding their acorns. We’d occasionally be startled by the thud of one falling on our cabin roof. Each morning would bring a fresh scattering of oak leaves, to crunch through on our way to the pool. It was so relaxing to be among the trees.
Exploring France from our Yelloh! Village campsite
Our perfect family holiday back in those days, when the children were five and two, involved relaxing, and doing very little. Staying at our luxuy campsite meant that we could spend entire days by the pool, with the occasional foray onto the bouncy castle, or into the campsite’s playground. But we did manage a couple of excursions, to Chambord Castle, and the countryside around Parc du Val de Loire.
After checking in with the people at reception to see what there was to do in the area, we hired bikes from Parc du Val de Loire. We cycled past vineyards and through pretty little villages, strewn with flowers.
We stopped for a picnic by the river, and made a mental note to come back to this part of France, when the children were a little older, to try out the canoeing and other watersports on offer in the Loire Valley. I’ve posted more about what there is to do in the Loire Valley with families, here.
